Confidence levels in vets
Many colleagues struggle with impostor syndrome and lack of confidence in their skills, causing anxiety and distress that lead to poor mental wellbeing and career satisfaction.
We feel like our technical skills are not as good as we'd like and we're falling behind in our learning and below the expectations of colleagues and clients.
We struggle to get enough mentoring to learn these skills and end up not feeling comfortable performing them.
We don't get enough hours of exposure to the cases where we can apply and develop these skills, so we don't get enough practice performing them and lose our confidence.
Many of us are stuck in this cycle...
We get no exposure or practice, so we don't learn new skills and procedures or receive any reassurance that we can perform them. As a result, we don't trust ourselves to do them and don't feel confident trying it out, which ends with the senior colleagues taking over the cases and we continuously missing on the opportunity to develop our skills because someone else will be more experienced / faster / better at it.
Ultimately, confidence comes
from the experience of competence.
When you don't get enough practice or exposure to cases, you don't feel like you can perform certain tasks. But even if you do and DON'T get reassurance that you are on the right track, you can still struggle to believe in your competence. If you don't believe in your competence, you don't feel confident.
Lack of confidence is uncomfortable, emotionally draining and makes you question yourself as a professional. You worry about making mistakes and quickly start to feel anxious, stressed and wondering if you should stop being a vet. All of this has a negative impact on your wellbeing and mental health.
How Learning Changes This
Our Academies were developed following a 4-step methodoloy that works for giving you long-lasting competence and confidence (with some fun in the mixture!)
Focused
We focus on a single hands-on skill at a time.
Mentoring
You will be guided by experienced professionals.
Repetition
It takes 5 days of hands-on experience to give you enough time to repeat, repeat, repeat, until you build muscle memory.
Dedicated learning environment
We promote a healthy learning environment away from client and peer pressures.
Hands-on and practical
You come to us to learn by doing, not by watching or assisting.
Hassle-free
Your stay and meals are part of the package so you can use all your energy for your own development.
Available Courses
Our Academies have limited vacancies that work on a priority basis.
The cost of our 5-day Academies or 3-day Workshops ranges from £2500 to £4500, which includes course fees, access to the theoretical content, accommodation, travel between the accommodation and the Academy site when needed and all meals from Sunday to Saturday morning, as well as ongoing mentoring after you leave (so you can actually become independent).
The price does not include airfare and travel to your accommodation, but we will help you organise this.

Ultrasound Academy
For vets that want to become proficient with abdominal ultrasound and get into the finer details and organs.
IMAGING ACADEMY
Echocardio Academy
For vets that want to be able to perform and interpert echocardiography or deliver it as an extra service.
SURGICAL ACADEMY
Spay Academy
For vets that want to practise spays in both cats and dogs gain confidence with neutering.

Registering for an Academy
Our Academies have limited vacancies and we allow timed registrations based on our Pre-Registration Priority List. The process of joining one of our Academies is the following:
Pre-Registration
Fill in the pre-registration form to let us know what Academy you'd be interesting in joining and when.
Q&A session and vacancy confirmation
After you fill in the pre-registration form, we will ask you to schedule a time to speak to us and do a Q&A session. We use this session to understand your experience level and explain you how each Academy works. We want to make sure you have no questions about it. We also need to confirm with you that there are still vacancies left for the dates that suit you.
Booking confirmation and invitation letter
Once all your questions are answered, it's time for you to decide if you want to join us and let us know if you can attend the Academy at the available dates. We will start processing your registration by providing you with an invitation letter.
Deposit payment and reservation
We will then send you an invoice for payment of your deposit. Your vacancy will be secured once payment has been received, unless we have made different arrangements with you.
A note from our founder
UniVets Global
UniVets Global was founded in 2022 and is led by veterinary surgeon Dr. Andreia Dias MRCVS MSc ISFMAdvCertFB, a vet by trade and teacher by heart.
Andreia has worked in the UK and Scotland in first opinion practice and referral practice, focusing on feline-only medicine and behavior, but her true passion lies in teaching and she fully understands how lacking confidence in your skills can be detrimental for your own mental wellbeing and sense of fulfillment with your career. UniVets Global is her project to promote confidence and wellbeing in the veterinary profession so that vets that love practice want to stay happily in practice, and we can all wake up knowing we can save one more life.
